Meetings
Troop 80 meets every week, year round. Meetings are every Monday from 7:30 to 9:00
PM (switching to 6:30-8:30 during summer months). We meet at Grace
Episcopal Church in Cortland - enter from the municipal parking lot at the rear
of the church.
Many meetings are centered around a Scout Skill, such as pioneering or first
aid. Other meetings might involve a fun activity, such as pumpkin carving for
Halloween, working on engineering problems, learning juggling or building and
flying model airplanes.
We try to schedule at least one guest speaker each month - past guests have
included an underwater archeologist talking about diving on a Revolutionary War
shipwreck, an expert on Winter Camping who spends every summer on a glacier,
and an FBI agent.
At least once a month we leave our regular meeting place for a field trip or
special outing. We'll take tours of places like Rock Stream Studios, where
they make "kinetic ball sculptures", Rubbermaid, the Central Fire
Station, or we'll head off to TC3 for a Swim Night.
At each meeting, we have a period for Scout Advancement - learning skills
toward your next rank or merit badge.
The meeting ends with a game and "Scoutmaster's Minute".
