Troop 80's Recent Eagle Scouts
Andrew Kostuk
Andrew was
awarded his Eagle on February 17, 2002, at a Court of Honor held during the
morning service at the Cortland United Presbyterian Church. His Eagle Project
was a clothing drive, run through the churches of Cortland County. He has been a
member of Troop 80 since 1997, and has served as Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol
Leader. He is currently a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.
Joe McDermott
Joe received his Eagle award in December, 1999. His court of
honor was held at the Homer Avenue Methodist Church, and was very
well attended. A
highlight was a reading of congratulations from
over a dozen other Joe McDermott's from around the world (not to
mention a message on behalf of the Clan McDermott), solicited by
e-mail from Scoutmaster Mike Brown. Joe's Eagle Project involved
photographing all of the Red Cross shelters in Cortland County,
and creating flyers for each area giving directions and a photo
of the nearest shelters.
Joe has been a member of troop 80 since the spring of 1992,
and while a youth member has served as Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol
Leader, Troop Guide and Jr. Assistant Scoutmaster. A student at
Elmira College majoring in English Education, he is now an Assistant
Scoutmaster.
Ed Barry, Jr.
Although he earned his Eagle in June of 1997, Ed's Court of Honor
was postponed until the fall of 1998, as he took off for Germany
before his paperwork came back from National in August, 1997. He
spent a year as a Rotary Exchange Student in Spenge, Germany, and
met up with our 1998 Blair Atholl Jamborette contingent in London
on his way home.
Ed's Eagle Service Project was developing a database of Civil War
graves in Cortland County for the Cortland Historical Society.
Ed has been a member of Troop 80 since 1991, and has served as
Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He was a recipient of the
Tioughnioga District Order of the Gorget, which is awarded to an
outstanding youth leader in the district.
He is currently a college student at Virginia Tech, and is an
Assistant Scoutmaster (in absentia). He has been on the Camp Barton
waterfront staff for two years, was a member of the council Philmont
crew in 1996, and was on the K2BSA Amateur Radio Staff at the 1997
National Scout Jamboree.
Brian Redfield
The Court of Honor for Brian Redfield was held on December 7, 1997
at St. Mary's Church in Cortland. The Master of Ceremonies was Troop
80 Assistant Scoutmaster and Eagle Scout Cliff Kostuk.
Brian's Eagle Service Project involved restoring the landscaping
around the "Welcome to Cortland" signs around the city limits.
Brian became a member of Troop 80 since 1991. He went to Philmont
in 1996, and was a member of Bicycle Motorcross staff at the 1997
National Scout Jamboree. He's served as a Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol
Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.
