Taughannock District Cook-o-Ree
Camp Barton - April 25, 2009

The Taughannock District Spring 2009 Cook-o-Ree was held on April 25, 2009, on the upper fields at Camp Barton. About 75 Scouts from 8 troops attended.

The event started with a competitive round of six stations in the morning, for which a Patrol Cook Kit was awarded to the winning patrol.

Each participant at the Cook-o-Ree got the opportunity to make his
own souvenir badge with the district's Badg-a-Minit machine.

Kim's Game, led by Liam Murphy

The Flapjack Relay
Patrols had to make a fire, cook a pancake and eat it.

At this station, led by Diane Blakely, the patrols had to make a
cooking gadget

Grocery List
At this station, the patrols had to price out a patrol dinner from
supermarket flyers, trying to find the least-cost option

Utensilless Cooking
The patrols had to cook an egg using only improvised materials -
skewers, paper bags, oranges, etc.
After lunch, Roger Morehouse, Dave Gross and Mike Brown put on demonstrations on cooking techniques, after which the troops returned to their campsites to begin cooking.
All returned to the Pavilion with their creations to share in a Travelling Feast. The event ended with a group campfire.
