The Nature Program at Camp Barton
Camp Barton's
wooded setting between two gorges along the shore of beautiful Cayuga
Lake offers a great opportunity for Nature study (officially
"Conservation/Ecology", but that's sure a mouthful!). Birds,
mammals, reptiles and amphibians of all kinds can be found in Barton's
hills, woods, fields and streams.
.
The Camp Barton Nature Trail will take you around the camp, and the
dark skies far from cities are full of stars (well, when they're not
full of clouds - this IS upstate New York, after all). The area's
resources only add to the experience - for Bird Study, we're just a
short drive from the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge at the head of
Cayuga Lake or the internationally known Laboratory of Ornithology at
Cornell University; for Geology, there's fossil hunting not at Portland
Point across the lake; for Environmental Science, there are varied
habitats of all kinds.
Barton offers the following Conservation/Ecology merit badges:

- Astronomy *(3a,3b)
- Bird Study *(7)

note from their parents or other proof of completion.
