Information and other stuff...

This page is dedicated to those folks who feel compelled to read the fine print on cereal boxes...

  • The twelve points of the Scout Law are the governing rules of Camp Barton. All Scouts are expected to follow their Oath and Law, and to Be Prepared, mentally awake and morally straight. Physical strength is desirable (especially for troops in campsites up the hill), but not required.
  • Check-in starts at 1:00 PM Sunday of your week at camp. Troops may check out any time after the Friday night retreat, or on Saturday morning (recommended). Saturday-night stay-overs may be arranged in advance for troops staying two weeks, or out-of-council units who would rather arrive Saturday. Meals are not served on Saturday after breakfast, or Sunday breakfast or lunch, and camp staff is not available over weekend stays.
  • Pre-camp meetings: Troop leaders should plan to attend the pre-camp meeting, which will be held on Tuesday night, a week before your troop is due to arrive at camp. The meetings will be at the Camp.
  • Medical Forms: All Scouts and leaders are required to bring a current completed medical form to camp.  A Scout or leader cannot be accepted for participation in camp activities unless the form is on file. The medical form will be reviewed by the Camp Health Officer - note that an Immunization Record is required by New York State regulations. The Baden-Powell Council has its own version of the Medical Form which incorporates the New York requirements. Contact the council office for copies, or download a copy from the forms page or the council website. Photocopies are acceptable.
  • Health And Medical Insurance: Every Scout in the Baden-Powell Council is covered by an Accident and Sickness insurance policy. Out-of-Council units attending Camp Barton are required to carry accident insurance, and a copy of the unit's policy or a statement of coverage must be given to the Camp Director on arrival.

  • OUT OF COUNCIL TROOPS MUST HAVE PROPER TOUR PERMITS with them when they arrive in camp. This is a National BSA requirement.
  • TROOPS SHOULD HANDLE FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THEIR SCOUTS - please submit camp fees as a group to the Council Service Center with a fee transmittal form, available from the Council Office and in the Leaders' Guide. Do not have Scouts send fees directly to the Council, except for out-of-council Scouts attending camp without their troops.
  • Boats: No privately owned boats can be moored at the Camp waterfront. Only Camp-owned boats will be used for the aquatic program unless prior arrangements have been made with the Camp Director.
  • Visitors: The Baden-Powell Council and the staff at Camp Barton are proud of our facility and welcome parents, prospective campers, alumni and other visitors. All visitors must check-in/check-out at the office upon their arrival or departure from camp. Visitors desiring to eat meals in the dining hall should make arrangements with the Camp Director/ Business Manager as far in advance as possible, but at least 24 hours in advance. Generally, parents will be permitted to sit with their sons, provided space is available. If space is limited, a special guest table will be arranged.
  • Visiting Days for Parents Parents are welcome to visit camp. However, because most boys are at camp for only one week, frequent visits interfere with the troop program and his activities. They should also be aware of limited parking and toilet facilities at camp. The best time for parents to visit camp is during Family Barbeque on Sunday evening. Tickets for these dinners are available on Sunday during check-in. Ticket prices for the Family Barbeque are as follows: Adult $5.00 Children (5-12 yrs. old) $4.00 Under 5 years old Free
Schedule for Sunday Night Family Barbeque:
    • 1:00 PM Tickets for barbeque on sale in central camp via the Camp Barton Alumni Association
    • 5:40 pm Retreat held at Parade Field
    • 6:00 pm Dinner - guests eat first, then scouts & leaders, followed by staff 8:30 pm
    • Campfire - put on by staff at North Point
  • Guest Meals are available for parents and visiting adult leaders. The cost is $6.00 for breakfast and lunch, and $10.00 for dinner. Any troop that expects extra visitors should reserve meals through the Camp Business Manager so we can be sure to make room and prepare enough food. Please pay for all meals at the Camp Office prior to the meal(s). A Scout is Trustworthy.
  • Health Department: Camp Barton is licensed by the Seneca County Department of Health. The camp is inspected twice yearly. Inspection reports are on file at the Seneca County Health Department in Waterloo, NY, and the Council Service Center.
  • Camp Barton is accredited by the Boy Scouts of America, and is inspected by the Northeast Region BSA Camp Evaluation Team.
  • Camp Barton is open to all registered Scouts regardless of race, color, creed or national origin. Camp Barton is an equal opportunity employer.
