YAGER, GUSTAVE.--Age, 20 years. Enlisted, January 2, 1864, at New York city, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. F, January 6, 1864; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; transferred to Co. G, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 31, 1865.

YAGER, JAMES.--Age, 18 years. Enlisted, November 1, 1861, at Oneonta, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. K, November 27, 1861; promoted corporal prior to April, 1863; captured in action, July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa.; paroled prior to August, 1863; returned to ranks, no date; discharged, to date January 20, 1865, at Albany, N.Y.

YANSON, JOSEPH.--Age, 34 years. Enlisted, December 10, 1861, at Middleburg, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. I, December 13, 1861; killed in action, August 29, 1862, at Bull Run, Va.

YANUS, JAMES.--Age, 22 years. Enlisted at Norwich, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. H, September 1, 1863; transferred to Co. I, February 2, 1864; retransferred, April 9, 1864; transferred to Co. B, January 1, 1865; to Co. C, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865; also borne as Yarnes.

YATES, BOWNE.--Age, 23 years. Enlisted at Cortland, to serve three years, and mustered in as wagoner, Co. F, October 18, 1861; discharged for disability, August 29, 1863, at Convalescent Camp, Va.

YATES, HARVEY.--Age, 23 years. Enlisted at Cortland, to serve three years, and mustered in as wagoner, Co. B, October 24, 1861; died of disease, August 11, 1862, at Falls Church, Va.

YORTON, EDWARD.--Age, 21 years. Enlisted at Rochester, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. K, August 5, 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; paroled, no date; transferred to Co. K, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 31, 1865.

YORTON, JAMES.--Age, 22 years. Enlisted at Rochester, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. K, August 5, 1863; killed in action, June 18, 1864, before Petersburg, Va.
Yorton was originally buried at Taylor's Farm, and is now buried in grave 2226 at Poplar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg National Battlefield - photo at right from US National Park Service Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System website, used by permission.

YOUNG, CHARLES.--Enlisted at Elmira, to serve three years, and: mustered in as private, Co. B, September 17, 1863; deserted, October 23, 1863, on the march to Haymarket, Va.

YOUNG, CORTLAND G.--Age, 25 years. Enlisted, September 22, 1861, at Richford, to serve three years; mustered in as corporal, Co. E, October 4, 1861; deserted, May 18, 1862, at Fredericksburg, Va.

YOUNG, DAVID.--Age, 22 years. Enlisted at Virgil, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. E, November 11, 1861; discharged for disability, February 18, 1863, at Philadelphia, Pa.

YOUNG, EZRA.--Age, 21 years. Enlisted, December 16, 1861, at Starkville, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co, K, December 23, 1861; deserted, May 21, 1862, at Fort Massachusetts, D.C.

YOUNG, GEORGE W.--Private, Co. G, Thirtieth Infantry; transferred to Co. K, this Regiment, May 25, 1863; wounded in action, July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa.; transferred to Co. I, July 1, 1864; to Co. G, December 1, 1864; to Co. G; One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865.

YOUNG, JAMES H.--Age, 19 years. Enlisted, October 11, 1861, at New Woodstock, to serve three years ; mustered in as corporal, Co. F, October 15, 1861; discharged for disability, July 7, 1862, at Washington, D.C.

YOUNG, JOHN W.---Age, 24 years. Enrolled, September 28, 1861, at Springfield, to serve three years; mustered in as captain, Co. K, October 14, 1861; wounded in action, July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa.; mustered in as major, September 30, 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; paroled, no date; discharged, March 12, 1865; 
Commissioned captain, January 17, 1862, with rank from October 14, 1861, original; major, August 26, 1863, with rank from July 3, 1863, vice J. E. Cook promoted.

YOUNG, LEWIS.--Private, Co. B, Twenty-fourth Infantry; transferred to Co. C, this Regiment, May 13, 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; escaped, December 14, 1864, at Savannah, Ga.; discharged to date, January 2, 1865.

YOUNG, NATHAN.--Age, 44 years. Enlisted, December 8, 1861, at Oneonta, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. K, December 10, 1861; discharged for disability, March 22, 1863, near Pratts Point, Va.

YOUNG, THOMAS J.--Age, 18 years. Enlisted, September 22, 1861, at Richford, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. E, October 4, 1861; discharged for disability, February 26, 1862, at Fort Totten.

YOUNG, URIAH.--Private, Co. G, Thirtieth Infantry; transferred to Co. I, this regiment, May 25 1863; killed in action, July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa.

YOUNG, W. - Private, 76th NY Regt., Co. K, died Mar. 24, 1863. Listed as buried in the Military Asylum Cemetery, Washington, D.C. (now the Soldiers Home National Cemetery), but not in AG Report.


ZEH, HIRAM.--Age, 23 years. Enlisted, October 15, 1861, at Gardnersville, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. H, October 18, 1861; deserted in February, 1862, at Hospital, New York city.

ZEH, HOLMES.--Age, 35 years. Enlisted, November 18, 1861, at Richford, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. E, November 23, 1861; discharged for disability, May 18, 1863, at Armory Square Hospital, Washington, D.C.

ZELLE, WILLIAM.--Age, 24 years. Enlisted at Buffalo, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. A, August 10, 1863; deserted, January 26, 1864, at Culpeper, Va.

ZOLLAND, WILLIAM J.--Age, 28 years. Enlisted at Utica, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, unassigned, September 25, 1863; no further record.

ZUFELDT, OREN.--Private, Co. C, Twenty-fourth Infantry; transferred to Co. G, this Regiment, May 13, 1863; wounded in action, July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa.; transferred to Veteran Reserve Corps, March 15, 1864.
