DAILY, ELLIOTT A.-Age, 21 years. Enlisted at Busti, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. E, August 20, 1863; transferred to Co. C, November 18, 1864; to Co. C, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865.

DANIELS, JEROME CLELAND - not listed in AG report, but per a personal communication from a descendent on February 1, 2001, his headstone says "Co. I, 76th New York Infantry. ... He is buried in Pearlington, MS in Murphy Family Cemetary, I have heard it called Turtleskin Cemetary. It is located close to NASA test site. He is buried next to his wife Stella Daniels. Another thing, I am not real sure about the spelling of his middle name either. I have two, Celon and Celand."

DANIELS, VALKERT.-Age, 38 years. Enlisted at Canandaigua, to serve three years, mustered in as private, Co. E, September 19, 1863; discharged for disability, July 7, 1864, at Judiciary Square Hospital, Washington, D. C.

DANIELS, WALLACE.-Private, Co. D, Twenty-fourth infantry; transferred to Co. A, this regiment, prior to December, 1863; discharged, March 6, 1864, at Culpeper, Va.

DANIELS, WILLIAM C.-Age, 33 years. Enlisted at Canandaigua, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. K, September 11, 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; died of disease, October 17, 1864, at Andersonville, Ga., a prisoner of war.

DARLING, ARTHUR.-Age, 18 years. Enlisted at Auburn, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. K, July 24, 1863; died of disease (typhoid fever), October 20, 1863, at First Division General Hospital, Alexandria, Va. Mother pension application 274163 239370 on file at National Archives.

DARR, JOHN.-Age, 18 years. Enlisted, October 15, 1861, at Cortland, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. G, October 21, 1861; deserted, December 10, 1861, at Syracuse, N. Y.; also borne as Durr.

DART, JOHN.-Age, 50 years. Enlisted at Cortland, to serve three years, and mustered in as musician, Co. F, October 18, 1861; died of disease, October 26, 1862.

The Medical and Surgical History reports his wound as Fatal Primary Amputations of the Left Arm, the Point of Ablation Unspecified.

DECATUR, JOHN.-Age, 20 years. Enlisted at Schoharie county, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. I, October 14, 1862; wounded in action, July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa.; in hospital, West Philadelphia, Pa., August 13, 1863; no further record.

DECKER, A. D. W.-Age, 30 years. Enlisted at Maine, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Go. E, July 13, 1863; transferred to Co. C, November 18, 1864; to Co. E, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865. "Maine" is Maine, New York, in Broome County.

DECKER, JOSEPH H.-Age, 18 years. Enlisted at Cherry Valley, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. H, October 21, 1861; deserted in November, 1861, at Cherry Valley, N, Y.

DECKER, WALTER D.-Age, 24 years. Enlisted at Cortland, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. A, November her 8, 1861; discharged for disability, November 25, 1862, at New York city. "...and died soon after," according to the Regimental History. Six months after, actually - according to his tombstone, Decker died May 25, 1863. The tombstone also says he was in Co. C, which is probably a mistake. He is buried in the Harford Mills, New York, cemetery. 

Decker's discharge certificate (far right) says that he was 5'8" tall, had a dark complexion, black hair and black eyes and was a farmer when he enlisted. The doctor at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Central Park, NY, said that he was completely disabled due to "fistula in anus, accrued since enlisting; 6 months ago; probably tuberculous."

DEVINE, MATHEW.-Age, 21 years. Enlisted at Syracuse, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. C, August 19, 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; died of disease, September 8, 1864, at Andersonville, Ga., a prisoner of war. 
Andersonville records list him as "McDevine", indicate he died of Scorbutus and show him as buried in grave no. 8126. "Scorbutus" is now called "scurvy", according to the Civil War Medical Terminology website.  

DEVOE, CHARLES W.-Age, 23 years. Enlisted, September 29, 1861, at Springfield, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. K, October 14, 1861; wounded in action, August 28, 1862; died of his wounds, August 29, 1862 (or September 3, 1862? in pension application), at Gainesville, Va. Father's pension application, six letters on file in National Archives

DEVOE, GEORGE W.-Age, 28 years, Enlisted, September 28, 1861, at Springfield, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. K, October 14, 1861; wounded in action, August 28, 1862, at Gainesville, Va.; captured in action, July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa., and May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; paroled, no date; transferred to Co. K, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 31, 1865. Affidavit by Young in Mothers Pension Application 174088 141096, in National Archives, states that George W. Devoe died November 15, 1864, at Andersonville, Ga.

DEWITT, GEORGE M.-Age, 24 years. Enlisted at Orange, to serve three Years, and mustered in as private, Co. A, July 27, 1863; promoted corporal prior to April, 1864; transferred to Co. C, October 11, 1864; to Co. H, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865. After the war, Dewitt gave a deposition in the pension file of Albert Hilton

DILLENBACK, JASON.-Age, 20 years. Enlisted at Utica, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. D, August 25, 1863; wounded in action, May 8, 1864, at Laurel Hill, Va.; transferred to Co. G, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28 1865; also borne as Jesse.
Dillenback is listed in the 1890 census of Civil War Veterans in Burleigh Township, Iosco County, Michigan, as follows: "Jason M Dellenbeck; Private; Co D 76th NY Inf; no dates given; Whittemore PO; piles 26 years; can't remember the dates."

DIMON, DANIEL.-Age. 26 years. Enlisted at Groton, to serve three years and mustered in as private, Co. C, November 25, 1861; transferred to Co. D, November 8, 1864; discharged, November 24, 1864, near Petersburg, Va.

Doran died on May 24, 1904, and is buried in the Dorward Cemetery in Cuyler, NY.

DRUE, EDGAR A.-Age, 27 years. Enlisted, October 22,1861, at Freetown, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. D, November 5, 1861; discharged for disability, December 30,1861.
He was born in Georgetown, Madison County. Middle name was "Amenzo".  His parents were Edward and Asenath (Powers).  He was a farmer in Georgetown before enlistment.  He died in Madison New York, June 15, 1892. - E.J. Raus

DUEL, WILLIAM H.-Age, 37 years. Enlisted at Kirkwood, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. D, July 17, 1863; captured in action, June 3, 1864, near Cold Harbor, Va.; died, September 30, 1864, at Andersonville, Ga., a prisoner of war.
