ABBEY, THOMAS J.- Age, 26 years. Enlisted at Troy, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. A. December 24, 1861; discharged for disability, January 31, 1863, at Convalescent Camp, Va.

ACKLEY, DE WITT C.- Age, 40 years. Enlisted, September 10, 1861, at Truxton, to serve three years; mustered in as a private, Co. G, October 9, 1861; discharged for disability, November 25, 1862, at Philadelphia, Pa.

ADAMS, ALVAH.- Age, 20 years. Enlisted, November 26, 1861, at Cherry Valley, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. I, November 27, 1861; discharged for disability, March 14, 1862, at New York hospital.

ADAMS, EDGAR A.- Age, 19 years. Enlisted at Ithaca, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. H, July 17, 1863; transferred to Co. A, February 2, 1864; retransferred, April 9, 1864; transferred to Co. B, January 1, 1865; to Co. I, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865; transferred to Co. I, 91st NY.

ADAMS, JAMES D.- Age, 22, years. Enlisted at Hornellsville, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co, D. July 18, 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; paroled, no date; transferred to Co. G, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865.

ADAMS, JOHN W.- Age, 32 years. Enlisted at Tyrone, to sever three years, and mustered in as private, Co. D, December 23, 1863; killed in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; listed in "New York Civil War Soldiers found on the Battlefields of the Wilderness and Spottsylvania Court House, VA"

ADAMS, WILLIAM. - Age, 34 years. Enlisted at Cortland, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. B, December 3, 1861; deserted, December 12, 1861, at Camp Campbell, Cortland, N.Y.

AGACE, KEESAN - Private, Co. F, Thirtieth Infantry; transferred to Co. E, this regiment, May 25, 1863; promoted Corporal prior to August, 1863; wounded in action, May 12, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; transferred to Co. A, November 18, 1864; to Co. B, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865; also borne as Karran, Eagan.

ALEXANDER, IRVING M.-Age, 22 years. Enlisted, September 18, 1861, at East Homer, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. A, October 4, 1861; discharged for disability, January 27, 1863, at Convalescent Camp, Va.

ALLEN, CHESTER H.-Age, 18 years. Enlisted, October 17, 1861, at Pitcher, (another source says "enlisted, Sept. 28, 1861, at Springfield") to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. B, October 18, 1861; killed in action, August 28, 1862, at Gainesville, Va. at Brawner Farm.

ALLEN, GEORGE A.-Private, Co. E, Ninety-third Infantry; transferred to Co. A, this regiment, January, 1862; discharged for disability, April 7, 1863, at Baltimore, Md.
Allen was a clerk in DeRuyter, Cayuga County, in 1865 per personal communication from Betty Auten.

AMEN, CONSTANT.-Age, 28 years. Enlisted at Utica, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. D, September 26, 1863; captured in action, June 3, 1864, at Cold Harbor, Va.; paroled, no date; transferred to Co. G, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865.

AMERICK, WILLIAM.-Age, 25 years. Enlisted at Auburn, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. K, July 25, 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; transferred to Co. D, no date; to One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, l865. Bill Edrington (  EdringtonW@aol.com ), a reader of this site, sent the following correction: 

I would like to offer some additional information about my great-great-great uncle.  His name is listed in the roster as William "Americk".  His actual name was William Aumock, and he was the younger brother of my great-great-grandmother, Abigail Aumock Daggett.  He was born in Conquest, Cayuga County, on August 20, 1838 and grew up in the area around Weedsport, so it makes sense he would have enlisted in Auburn. I have recently run across a listing of "conscripts" from Cayuga County in 1863, and his name appears on that list as being from Brutus (of which the village of Weedsport is a part).  After his honorable discharge at Patterson Hospital in Baltimore, MD on May 20, 1865, he returned home; married Kate M. Burke; had four children, all of whom were born in Cato, Cayuga County. He was a resident of Syracuse since at least 1880, and died in Syracuse in 1919.  He is buried in Weedsport Rural Cemetery.

ANDERSON, HENRY.-Private, Co. C, Twenty-fourth Infantry; transferred to Co. G, this regiment, May 12, 1863, while absent, wounded; no further record.

ANDERSON, JOHN.-Age, 21 years. Enlisted at Rochester, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. F, August 5, 1863; wounded in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; transferred to Co. D, July 1, 1864; to Co. F, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865.

ANDERSON, JOHN.-Age, 25 years. Enlisted at Perrysburg, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co, G, August 20, 1863; wounded in action, June 3, 1864, at Cold Harbor, Va.; died of his wounds, July 18, 1864, at Stanton General Hospital, Washington, D. C. Buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

ANDREWS, JOHN T.-Age, 18 years. Enlisted, October 10, 1861, at Groton, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. C, November 2, 1861; mustered out with company, November 8, 1864.
Andrews was the single son of Obed and Subia Holden, and a printer, according to an obituary (per Betty Auten). 

ANSETT, MICHAEL.-Age, 24 years. Enlisted at Buffalo, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. K, August 12, 1863; captured in action, May 5, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va.; transferred to Co. I, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 31, 1865.
From a reader of this website, Robert Braun (braunwis@ticon.net): "I am related by marriage to a soldier in Co. K... Michael Anstett (the 1901 list incorrectly spells his name "Ansett") a drafted man who joined the regiment after Gettysburg. Anstett was captured during the first day's action in the Wilderness and sent to Andersonville prison. He survived, and lived to be an elderly man, although plagued by infirmities brought on by his incarceration. He worked as a steeplejack for years after the war, in the Lancaster, Erie County, NY area. He was also active in veterans affairs and reunions of the 76th New York."

ANTICE, SAMUEL S.-Age, 21 years. Enlisted at Cherry Valley, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. K, October 17, 1861; deserted, May 13, 1862, at Fort Massachusetts, D. C.

APGAR, JOHN G.-Age, 31 years. Enlisted, September 16, 1861, at Peruville, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. C, (Note: actually company "A", see below) October 5, 1861; transferred to Veteran Reserve Corps, November 22, 1863.

On the Co A 76th NY muster roll dated Jan 1, John was noted as "at home on furlough" and that John G. Apgar was "elected 1 Lt on fifth of October and served until Nov. 25th 1861". Without any explanation in the military file, John then became a private in Co A. He was listed as present from January through August 1862 on the Co A muster rolls. On the Sept-Oct '62 muster roll of Co A 76th NY, John was reported "sick in hospital". However, the Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital muster roll "to Nov 1", indicates that he was employed as a "Nurse" from Sept 8/62. On the Jan/Feb '63 Hospital muster roll John was listed as a "Patient". The Co A 76th NY muster out roll includes the remarks "Transf'd to Invalid Corps Nov. 28, 1863, (in accordance with) G. O. (General Order) 381, A.G.O. (Adjutant General's Office)". There is no indication of wounds, why a nurse, type of sickness, reason for transfer, or fate. Unfortunately, I neglected to get John's pension file--although his wife Mary applied for a widow's pension on 4-12-1879. Her application was approved. I'll have to ask for that on my next trip.

APPLEBEE, DARIUS W.-Age, 37 years. Enlisted at Cortland, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. G, October 19, 1861; discharged for disability, March 3, 1862, at Fort Totten, D. C.

ARCHER, CHARLES.-Age, 20 years. Enlisted, August 5, 1863, at Rochester, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. C, August 24, 1863; deserted, September 22, 1863.

ARNOLD, ALLEN.-Age, 23 years. Enlisted, September 19, 1861, at Pitcher, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. B, December 7, 1861; detached to gunboat service, February 17 1862; killed by explosion on steamboat Mound City, June 17, 1862. (note: records say "Queen of the West", but Arnold is listed in the Official Records of the Navy and on the monument to the Mound City, and Regimental History also says "Mound City".)

Austin died sick at Wilmington 10/4/1864, and his surviving wife is buried there as well, per personal communication from Betty Auten.
