Images of the 76th New York
Unknown Soldiers

If you can put names to any of these images, please e-mail Mike Brown at wb2jwd@htva.net

An unknown officer - possibly of the 76th NY, according to the eBay listing selling this CDV. Picture found in album with picture of William Wright.

At left - Photo from Homeville Museum, captioned:
"
Mr. Edgcomb
The Last Cortland Veteran
Died in 1953
Donated by Tent 63, DUV"

Unfortunately, this isn't
Sergeant Martin Edgcomb, of the 76th NY, who died in 1920. It's an interesting bit of Cortland history, though.

Mary Ann Kane of the Cortland County Historical Society notes:
"John H. Lane, supposedly last Civil War vet to die - 7/17/42. Local (Cortland Co.) 76'ers seem to have died prior to 1935"

Images on this row are from November 2000 eBay sale of album which had pictures of 76th Soldiers, plus other CdV's (same source as Harrison Whitney and Wainwright CdV's)

Note: album was auctioned again in March 2003. It sold for over $550

Two unknown CdV photos
from August 2007 eBay
auction - same lot as CdV of
Lt. Weaver
now in Tom Canfield collection

At left, painting from Tom Canfield collection. He writes, "When I got it here at home the glass was broken, but it didn't damage the painting. When I took the original old board off the back (fastened with square nails)...to get to the painting, it clearly had old script writing "76th NY" in pencil. Couldn't find a name though... The frame was definitely original with plaster decorations painted over. Its a real cool item to hang on the wall. The uniform looks very 76th NY also. When you look at the painting very close the face is really detailed...
